Raisa Stone: Ukrainian Tales, Food, Olympic Dreams, More Music

Raisa has collected stories of survival from Stalinist and Nazi survivors---including her family---since childhood. Alternately heart wrenching and hilarious, her narrator Baba (grandma), gives the bottom line on the survivor experience. Wild stories are interspersed with traditional recipes and insider tips on Ukrainian food/folk medicine.

Listen to audio clips from Baba's Kitchen: Ukrainian Soul Food:

Below are

Clips from Raisa's collection of Ukrainian folk tales; an excerpt from her story of equestrian team dreams, The Pig Olympics; more songs, including national CBC release Cajun Moon

The Pig Olympics

What happens when a little girl with Olympic Equestrian dreams, is made to spend summers on a pig farm? She improvises!  Excerpt from an original story by Raisa Stone.

Luba, The Stag, & Baba Snowstorm (Excerpt)

This powerful legend occurs in several cultures. Raisa rewrote the Ukrainian version, dramatized it and added a stag in a way that recalls the primal roots of Beauty & the Beast

In her version, Baba Snowstorm is the ultimate wild Slavic woman who brews a mean pot of borshch and mystical advice.

Raisa first performed this monologue at La Run Theatre, sponsored by Puente Theatre

Director: Lina de Guevara

Oh Beautiful Girl by the Rustling Grove is a traditional piece Raisa used to sing with her family.

"You crazzy?!" The Girl, The Stag & Baba Snowstorm (Excerpt)

Baba Snowstorm gives a piece of her wild Ukrainian grandmotherly mind to a greedy young woman.

Cajun Moon
